Can You Prevent Infidelity In Your Marriage?

CouplePillowFight

One of the biggest deal breakers that people have in a relationship is cheating. Infidelity is looked down upon because it’s something that can be prevented. Plus, it breaks the trust in a marriage. The relationship may never be the same.

Infidelity is more common than you might think, affecting close to half of all marriages. In most cases, when cheating occurs, the marriage ends. There are cases in which relationships survive, but it’s very difficult, requiring the effort of both parties.

Affairs are not full of romance and passion. When a person seeks out an affair, it’s because there is something missing in their marriage. Men tend to cheat on their partners due to a lack of sexual satisfaction. For women, the reasons for cheating are unhappiness and a lack of connection.

You may think that your spouse will never cheat. That may be true, but keep in mind that everyone is susceptible. All it takes is one moment of weakness.

Once your spouse cheats on you, it’s hard to get past it. Your best course of action is to prevent infidelity in the first place. That means taking care of your marriage. Here are several things you can do to prevent infidelity in your marriage.

Be Intentional

Life gets busy. It’s important that you find ways to connect with your spouse on a regular basis. In fact, you should find ways to connect at the end of every day. Take time to talk about your day. Watch TV together. Share a glass of wine. There are many things you can do to spend time together. It doesn’t have to be anything intense and it doesn’t have to take up too much time, but having some sort of ritual allows you to focus on your spouse.

Be Available

Along the same lines, make use of the time you and your spouse have together. Don’t just sit in silence and worry that you’re bothering your spouse. Stop being so busy and let your husband or wife know that you’d like to connect with them. Conversations should be opportunities to hear and listen to each other. You do not necessarily have to solve each other’s problems. You just have to be available.

Be Careful

An affair can happen at any time, so be aware. Affairs don’t just suddenly happen, though, so watch out for other people who could be trying to come on to your spouse. Keep company with good friends who value your marriage and won’t be trying to tempt you or your spouse into doing something disastrous.
